Cupcakes in a Jar are the cutest way to give cupcakes, especially if you are mailing them. You can make any kind of cupcake, filling, or frosting you want in small pint sized mason jars.
I like to use the small 4 oz Ball jars for a single serving. If you want to use the larger 8 oz jars, you will need one and a half cupcakes and 3 layers of frosting or filling.
You start with baking the cupcake as you would normally in whatever type of cupcake liners you prefer. I used foil ones here. Make sure your cupcakes don’t over flow the liner and make an outside lip to the top. This won’t fit in your jar (4 oz or 8 oz).
Then slice the cupcake in half horizontally. Place the bottom part of the cupcake in the jar. Then pipe frosting or filling to make a 1/4 inch layer. I used a flavored whipped cream filling in these.
Then, place the cupcake top in the jar and top with frosting. I used a buttercream frosting and I sprinkled with chocolate sprinkles.
